Apple launches iOS 5 update with potential battery fix

Apple has released an update to the iOS 5 operating software that should fix problems with battery life on its mobile devices.

According to several published reports, including Cnet and TechCrunch, the 5.0.1 update also fixes bugs tied to iCloud documents and multitasking gestures on the original iPad.

iOS 5, which launched last month with the iPhone 4S, is also available on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, as well as existing iPad models and the third- and fourth-generation iPod Touch.

Last week, Apple admitted some of its customers experienced issues with poor battery life on their mobile devices, citing iOS 5 bugs.

Some users of the iPhone and other devices had said they were losing as much as 15% of the battery's life per hour, even while in standby mode.
